Graduate students
Henrique Vieira
Ph.D. student (2021-current) M.S. (Entomology) University of Minnesota Email: [email protected] His dissertation research is focused on developing an integrative approach by combining phenology models, biological control and cultural control to combat wheat stem sawfly (Cephus cinctus), the most important pest affecting winter winter in Colorado and the Great Plains. This research is supported by Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee and Colorado Wheat Research Foundation. |
Max Schmitbauer
Ph.D. student (2022-current) B.S. (Agricultural Biology) Colorado State University Email: [email protected] His dissertation research is focused on developing tools and practices that leverages the benefits of organic production to improve sustainable pest management of organically-grown hemp. Specifically, his project is focused on understanding the role of rhizosphere microbiome associated with plant resistance to pests and the impact of organic inputs (resistant cultivars, OMRI-approved insecticides, and natural enemies) in reducing pest populations. This research is supported by NIFA-Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative (OREI) program. He is also involved in assessing insecticide susceptibility to a range of sugar beet pests. This project is supported by Snake River Sugar Beet Alliance. |
Venkatesh Padimi
Ph.D. student (2024-current)
M.S. (Entomology) Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, India
Email: [email protected]
His dissertation research aims to develop a sustainable biocontrol method to reduce the impact of wheat stem sawfly and improve wheat crop health and yield. Specifically, his research is focused on characterization and evaluation of novel entomopathogenic fungi, Fusarium spp. efficacy against wheat stem sawfly in winter wheat.
This research is supported by Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee and Colorado Wheat Research Foundation.
